Speakaboo is an articulation screener designed to help SLPs assess speech development of a multilingual child in its native language. Using small interactive games, Speakaboo helps therapists elicit target words which are automatically recorded. The therapist can access these recordings after the test to review them, score the results, and compare them to the pronunciation of a native speaker. In the face of a language barrier, showing the childs parents a comparison of the two recordings makes it easier to explain a diagnosis. The SLT can also use the app to play the recorded audio of their child back. This often results in a better understanding of the diagnosis by parents.
The test takes only 10 minutes. The short duration makes Speakaboo ideal for working with young children who become restless during long evaluations. Speakaboos entertaining pop-ups additionally help children open up.
